• Programme director of the Programme in Conservation of the Historic Environment at Reading University's Department of Real Estate and Planning. I also deliver a conservation module to undergraduate construction and real estate students at University's Department of Construction Management and Engineering.
• Course director of short courses in the historic environment programme at Oxford University Department for Continuing Education
• Editor of the Journal of Architectural Conservation, a peer-reviewed academic journal
• Co-chair of the Heritage Alliance's Spatial Planning Advocacy Group. This involves regular liaison with government departments and politicians on heritage issues. I have also given evidence to a Parliamentary select committee.
• Member of the Church Buildings Council which is the Church of England body with overall responsibility for church buildings. I served on the Faculty Progress Group in 2012-14, which recommended ways of simplifying the procedures for carrying out works to Anglican churches. I chair the Stained Glass Committee, which adminsters grants.

• Joint author of the revised British Standard Guide to the Conservation of Historic Buildings BS7913:2013
