• Course director of short courses in the historic environment programmes at Oxford University Department for Continuing Education
• Editor of the Journal of Architectural Conservation, a peer-reviewed academic journal
• Co-chair of the Heritage Alliance's Spatial Planning Advocacy Group. This involves regular liaison with government departments and politicians on heritage issues. I have also given evidence to a Parliamentary select committee.
• Joint author of the revised British Standard Guide to the Conservation of Historic Buildings BS7913:2013
• Membership assessor for the Institute of Historic Building Conservation. Interim education secretary 2015-6

• Past chair of the Gloucester Diocesan Advisory Committee, the body which advises on repairs and alterations to churches in the diocese (2015-19)

• Past chair and member of the RICS Building Conservation Forum steering group. Past editor of RICS Building Conservation Journal.
• Past member of the Church Buildings Council which is the Church of England body with overall responsibility for church buildings. I served on the Faculty Progress Group in 2012-14, which recommended ways of simplifying the procedures for carrying out works to Anglican churches. I chair the Stained Glass Committee, which adminsters grants.
• Past member of ICOMOS-UK Executive Committee and Education and Training Committee
• Past board member of AABC (Architects Accredited in Building Conservation)
• Appointed an OBE in New Year Honours List 2010
